Question about shocks and struts and age

It is a financial issue. Except for the rattles, mostly in the rear, the car now runs really well. It was a beater when I bought it 3 years ago, now it is a reliable car that I may keep until we downsize and I lose a parking space. I don't like replacing parts just for the exercise.

It does have a slight leak in the power steering, not sure if it is a hose or the rack itself. It only leaks if the wheels are turned to lock(max pressure).

I guess it is time to pull the covers off the rear shock mounts and take a look.

Yes, Volvos are rough riding, but this one compares to my V70R with sport springs. A bit rougher than I would like. The noise seems diminished a lot when there is a passenger in the rear seat, so it may be suspension bushings, but I don't know how to check that either. A pry bar?
