You know, thinking about it more, I don't think it's poor compression. The car drove fine for the first five minutes. The misfire began only after about five minutes into the drive when I revved it up past 4k rpm (or the engine's temperature came up).

Sounding (to me anyway) more like a typical Volvo electrical gremlin.

I should go drive it again; do a little more poking/prodding.
