2006 XC70. Did the breather box and some hoses, but not the long one with the incorporated metal pipe...I was just doing this job because the hose from the head to the breather box had broken. SO...after finally getting it all apart, new breather box, some hoses...5 hours later (I had some snags along the way), I was re-assembling the job. There is a rigid black tube (about 1/4 O.D.O that goes from the hose to the breather box, incorporated into the long hose with the metal tube. That rigid tube cracked and broke in several places...Damn. I had to re-assemble because I need the car for work (and play)...So I looked in my stuff and found some semi-rigid tubing that I had from connecting a line to my ice cube maker in the fridge. It fit, but I could only press fit it into the hose at the breather box.
SO...what is that tube? Vacuum? How will I know if my 'fix' holds? What symptoms will arise if it doesn't?
Do I have to purchase that whole tube assembly if the one I have (minus the damn 1/4" tube) is in decent shape?
I realize that I will have to go in there again, but at least I know what to expect, and the engine bay is clean.
