Hi All,
I was able to remove it without a problem. It wasn't too difficult. I don't know why the dealer quoted him for $1400, that was just for removal & installation for DIM.
For repair and return service, you don't need to obtain the codes. Lucky us. I didn't have to put it all back and read codes.

On his 2002 S80, there are two screws that holds the cluster frame. You need to remove it first.

It's really tight in there. The left side had less room.

In order to remove the DIM, tilt it forward like so & pull out toward you.

I put a tiny magnet for insurance.
My friend and I would like to thank you all!!! His broken DIM is on its way to Canada.
