Re: Fuel Pump Problems / Not Starting & Stalling Engine S40-V40 00

NT. as Arno has pointed out, these cars have an imobilizer built in as a theft deterrent feature. This system consists of a tiny transponder in your key (ever wonder why they are so bulky?) and a receiver inside your car. If you have more than one key in the car (say your wife has hers or you stashed one in the car), the system may get confused and not start. Make sure there are no other keys for this car around when you start it. If that fails, I would say it is a Lemon Law candidate. Check your state's Lemon Law procedures. In my state the seller must take the car back and refund the money if after 3 attempts to fix the same problem within a year the problem is still there. There is a bunch of paperwork, of course, but maybe you will get better results from your service dept if you start the process. I have not heard of fuel pump problems on x40 models, so maybe your car just has some defect that is uniqe or not common. Volvo is obligated to fix this under the new car warranty and according to your State's Lemon Law, they must refund or replace it if they can't fix it. Don't give up, be persistent and active at your dealership. They should help you resolve this mess.

Good Luck.
