Well, no. (at least I'm pretty sure the answer is no)

Over time, (some say 20-30 minutes, other 100s of miles) The Engine Computer "adjusts" somewhat to drive style, gas quality, driving conditions etc. By reseting after any engine related mod you are allowing the EC to adjust more quickly to that mod. In addition, when you reset the EC the engine seems to have more power. Some people reset right before they go to the track for the extra power. The stock settings must be richer or something.

Anyway, adjusting the EC will not make the wastegate mod permanent as far as I know.

What I think made a difference in my mod was that I turned the wastegate actuator connecter far enough in that the EC cannot easily overcome the mod. Likely the danger here is that I run the risk of too much back presure on shifts. You see, initially I tried 4.5 turns and after what seemed like 200-300 miles, most of the change seemed to wear off. Since then, I tried 1 more turn and now after about 1K more miles, it's still going strong, just a smoother power curve when the EC adapted.

This is all based on my experience with my car and my theories are guesses based on what I've read on this board and in other places.

Does that make sense to anyone else or is it all hogwash?
