The A-2 code is a vacuum leak somewhere, but has nothing to do with starting the engine.

At the end of the fuel injector rail is a schrader valve. A quick push will show you if there is fuel, have the key in position II or hit the starter for 3-5 seconds.

Could the starter be making funny noises or running slow?
How about the fuel pump relay? #103 under the battery tray. Connect #15 and #87 with a wire and turn the key to pos II to see if the pump runs.
