"Also, don't turn the key on while there is no DIM in the car. That will set the SRS fault light which only the dealer or someone with Vida/dice can clear. Disconnecting the battery prior to removing the DIM, and not reconnecting it until another DIM is in place is probably safer yet."
Actually, the battery should have been disconnected.

Is the SRS light in the dash also on? It should turn off after it does its system checks. If the SRS light turns off, then the fault is in the DIM according to others on the web.

VIDA/DICE scanner to diagnose and turn off.
