Jeff-

This is NOT a job for the DIY! The upper half of the cylinder head has to be removed to access the lifters. During this procedure, there is a risk of damaging the thrust flanges in the head that control camshaft end-play. Also, the PROPER way to re-assemble the head involves Volvo special tools to index the crankshaft and both camshafts in the correct postions to verify the cams are timed correctly. (the cam sprockets are slotted at the bolt holes) It takes about 5 or 6 different special tools to do this job- the cost for the tools would be at least a few hundred dollars for a job you probably won't ever do again. I estimate the labor to replace lifters at around 8 hours for a professional shop with all the proper tools.
