Re: 4 ohm versus 8 ohm speakers S70 2000

I thought that I had a "premium" sound system in my S70...gee wiz 10 speakers. But, to my ears it sounds completely dull and lifeless. The highs are not crisp and the lows can only be described as sloppy. And I'm not a trained ear, but have this "curse" at noticing things like this. It's not just Volvo either. I've listened to "premium" Delco systems that make the Volvo system sound superb. But, on the rare occasions that I do hear a good quality system, boy is it sweet. And let me tell you, what I hear now ain't so sweet, although it seems to do better with a CD...but, don't they all.

My motivation with the 4 ohm speakers was that I happen to have them laying around. These Sonys that I have must certainly be better than the non-standard garbage that's in there now. But as you point out, one thing leads to the next.

What type of after market amp would I need to interface to the existing head, given the 10 speaker setup? Was your amp able to drive 8 ohm and later 4 ohm speakers?

Thanks,

Ted
