Monitors / Readiness Codes won't set for CA Smog test - CA Exemption? 850 1997

I have a 97 850glt.In Ca. and have had the car smogged checked, within hours of resetting the check engine light. I use the alex pepper obd2 software and remove all history and turn off the light. Have you tried to smog the car yet? If the check engine light is out it should pass... My neighbor had a older Toyota and took it to the dealer for a smog test and they told him it wouldn't pass..the didn't even hook it up to the machine..We then took it to a local smog shop and thy passed it right away. The factory dealers like to work on new cars so the don't get there hands dirty..
