I forgot if yours is a 4 or 5 speed, the capacities are just a little different. A drain on a 4 speed is about 3.5 quarts, out of a total of 9 quarts.
On Matthews site, they suggest draining followed by a flush. But, always drain a cold tranny so that the garbage is in the sump and not in the works. It only takes 30-40 minutes to flush at home, but about 10-12 quarts of 3309 total.
Regardless, check the current level of the fluid. It will still work nicely at 2 quarts low, but overfill is a killer. Unknowingly, I ran mine 2 quarts low and there were no complaints until the temps were below -10F; then the tranny made bad noises until the ATF warmed up.
