I have an indicator problem, and hopefully someone has an idea of what is causing it.
Intermittently my indicators will stick "on" without flashing, when signalling to turn left or right, or when putting the hazard lights on. Whether the flashing problem is occurring or not, all indicator bulbs outside illuminate OK (of course, when the problem occurs they are static rather than flashing).
When this happens I get the single green arrow constantly illuminated in the dash (or both in the case of hazards).
Recently the dash indicator for a failed bulb has been lighting up intermittently. It seems to not be correlated with the flashing failure of the indicators.
4000 kms ago when I bought the car, there was a problem with the keyless entry system that also happened infrequently, either when locking and unlocking. The left hand side indicators would remain on without flashing after opening or closing the car. If it happened when I hopped in and started driving (not noticing the problem for a minute), the only thing which would stop the constant glow of the l.h.s. indicators would be to stop the car, toggle the keyless entry button off & on, and start again. (Moving the turn signal switch on the steering column wouldn't disengage the non-flashing lights.) There has been no fault with the keyless entry lately though, and I haven't seen the prob. in 2000 kms or so. (Keyless entry itself has always operated flawlessly.)
I checked the contacts to all indicator bulbs yesterday and found that they looked to be in as new condition. No carbon, no crud. I sanded the contacts slightly just to make sure- yet the problem still appears.
Could this be the keyless entry system, a dodgy flasher can, or a bad connection somewhere?
If it's the flasher, I have opened up the lower part of the dash beneath the steering wheel and the can is nowhere to be seen... obviously from the noise it makes it is right up in the dash above the air conduits for the climate system- are there any easy ways to get to it? Haynes is woefully incomplete on the subject of flasher cans...
Thanks in advance
