You will indeed need to be careful installing this. You can't treat vinyl fuel line the way you did on the old rubber fuel line.
You will do well to order the check valve and take it in to your local parts counter to have the connections sorted out.
You will have a setup that will go something like this
vinyl fuel line (from tank pump)
vinyl to steel line fitting adapter
steel line
flare nut
check valve in
check valve out
flare nut
steel line
steel line to vinyl adapter
vinyl fuel line (to pressure regulator)
Papco has some good products for dealing with this type of thing.

page 53 and 54 of the catalog above have the fuel line repair products.
Vinyl to steel line requires a special shape on the end of the steel line (which you will have to buy pre-made - I know of no way to make this at home) and an oetiker clamp to hold it together, or a premade adapter where the vinyl line is already stuck (vulcanized?) to the steel line.
To go from the steel line to the threaded fitting on the check valve you will need to put a flare on the steel line and use a flare nut that fits the threaded fitting on the check valve.
If you don't have any experience with vinyl fuel line, a good parts counter should be able to sort you out.
Good luck.
