Electronic Throttle Module "Recall' (surging, power loss, limp mode)

Your friend in WA state is right on the money. BTW, the cruise will not engage when there are certain codes present, like ETM, ABS, etc. The ABS will also disengage with a faulty ETM.

Just drive it until it gets bad, then get the ETM fixed.

Funny thing is, so far nothing has set a MIL or Check Engine Light, though the tech said the text messages are equivalent to a MIL. The MIL light does check when I turn the ignition on, though, so the bulb's good.

I have a better scanner now, an Equus 3160, their top-of-the line, which I will hook up tomorrow, but I doubt it will turn up anything.

Perhaps none of the stored codes (if there are some) rise to the level of importance to set a MIL, but do prevent the cruise from even turning on (much less allowing it to be set). Quite often I'll be driving with the cruise on, then after 10 minutes, or 30 minutes, it will just shut off, green power light and all.
