I have a `98 V70 T5(M) with 48k. I'm bringing it in for the final "once over" before the warranty expires. There are a few items, like a bulb that's out on the stereo, Service light is on, seatbelt "button" that keeps the clip from sliding to the floor is missing, and I want the alarm to flash upon unlock.
But more troubling is the occasional tapping/knocking noise coming from the engine area. I know lifter noises, and while that's present, I think it's normal.
No, this noise is more muffled and lower pitched. Sounds like it's coming from the driver's side of the head (the cap/rotor is there, right? hmmm).
I don't think it's rod-knock, at least I hope not. The oil analyses I had done (two of them in the last 5k miles) were perfectly normal.
Any suggestions? Maybe something with the distributor?
The noise comes and goes, at least it gets louder and softer. I notice it if I get out of the car and am near the front of the car with the hood closed. I've only heard it when the car's warm, but haven't really listened when it's cold.
Any ideas?
