It is NOT a common failure. Someone must have stepped on it while the radiator was being replaced. You will need a new one, but they are relatively cheap. Once bent, they will become weak and collapse again.
When you install it, shove the front into the opening at the top of the radiator first, then put the rear into the air cleaner box.
Buy a new air filter while you are at it, take the box out of the car and clean it out with soap and water. Nice little task :>)
