New front brake pads and rattles

I'm having a mysterious clack that I thought might be something loose with brakes. It's not over every bump, but in starting out, or going in reverse, and is very infrequent. One clack and then not much else. Also is the front outer pad supposed to appear to contact the rotor when parked? I was surprised to notice this and need a little more info (and check other wheels) before taking things apart. Great post, Thanks!
