1998 V70 T5 engine backfires then stalls V70-XC70 1998

May I suggest looking for a loose vac hose or air intake leak (a serious one)? I know these normally set codes - but maybe worth a look anyway?

The other thing to check is a loss of main voltage - e.g. open connection to main relay or fuel relay - intermittent or loose connection in ignition circuit, etc - these things also might not set a code right away. Did any of the accessories - stereo, window winders, etc. stop working at or near the same time?
