Ignition SW Problem S70 1998

When removing key the little chime keeps dinging indicating the key is supposedly is still inserted. With a little effort it is possible to get the switch in the key cylinder to return and the chime ceases. This is a problem on the mechanical side not the electrical.

Are there any cures short of a new key cylinder? I have used WD40 and compressed air with no luck. Wife's car so it needs to be 'perfect'.

Help appreciated before I order a cylinder,
