Mine died without making noise. Easy to replace, but at about $250-$300 plus the relay for $50 and the check valve for around $75, I just rigged the car without the stupid thing!!! Really terrible design, when mine siezed it spewed nasty juices into the improperly sealed and located relay and killed that too. I was not a happy camper at 4 years and 50,000 miles....what a piece of shit set-up.

Only helps briefly emisions for cold starts....but the real world trade offs where NOT considered. Volvo. Gotta love 'em.
