Probably just the fan relay if the coolant temp gauge on the instrument cluster did not go into the red. Turning on the AC must also turn on the engine fan at the same time, everytime.

Because you have a lot of bugs down there, try flushing out the fins on the radiator and condenser with a garden hose. Right through the grill at "high" pressure, but don't use a pressure washer. You will be amazed at what comes out!
