Some years ago, I did an ECU reflash and Sport Muffler upgrade. The results were more than satisfactory. Double the boost, pleasant exhaust note, great pull through the gears, and a reported HP increase from stock 236 to 285. The best fun is having what appears to be a sedate blue Brick, but running neck and neck with the pimply “Fast & Furious” crowd at the Interstate on-ramp. They keep looking over at me, unable to understand how this nerdy Volvo station wagon is keeping up with them.
But … last week I completed a few additional “enhancements”. I installed the IPD Short Ram Intake, MSD Ignition Coil Upgrade, and Heavy Duty Turbo Control Valve. Words fail me. It is like I just cured my car of asthma and installed an adrenalin injection pump.
While the IPD descriptions of these upgrades are clear that they do not increase HP, I can say with some confidence that the existing HP now arrives much earlier at the party. No more waiting for 3000 RPM to see the boost gauge needle rise. To say that it is exhilarating is an understatement.
I don't know if one, two, or all three of these upgrades is responsible for my increase in performance, but it was worth every penny.
