I haven't looked at a 4cyl engine yet. It is time to clean the throttle body, the fuel filter is cheap and needs to be replaced at least every 90,0000 miles.

Because 'giving it a little gas' actually opens the throttle to allow more air, you might have a slow to respond idle air control. Check the hoses and make sure it is functioning properly.
