Sorry about that. I had also posted this on another forum and followed up there.

Turns out, and it's embarrassing, that I had checked the wrong cylinder #5. I was counting by the firing order, and ended up switching two good coils and two good plugs so there was no change in the issue. I was in a hurry and hadn't had a chance to check all five in the dark, excuses excuses. But yes, it was just a bad coil. My indy mechanic replaced it with a used one and the car runs like a champ.
