Valve chatter noise V70-XC70

2001XC (about 55K miles)runs fine. Recently after shutting off the engine I have noticed a chattering sound that last about 30 to 45 seconds. It sounds and feels to be comming from a small black componnent low on the engine air filter box. The componnent appears to have three vacumum hoses connected to it. Is it some sort of small vacumum checking valve that has started to fail???
