I seldom use the wipers, prefering RainX which lets the water just stream off.

Let the wipers work for about 5-10 minutes when it is raining a lot to wear off the gunk that the sun has built up on the blades. Or use soap and water and wash the bottom of the blades until the cloth no longer has black marks on it.
