My understanding is that Vol-FCR could interrogate all control modules, but that it was limited to '96 and '97 850s, and the 1998 70-series cars. I'll have to try that with the demo tomorrow when the wife gets back with the S60.
I know it didn't work on my former '95 850, even though that had an OBD-II port.
I have a VAG-COM, necessitated by the Beetle, but they claim the interface to work with Vol-FCR.
Aside from using the Volvo VCT-2000 tool to interrogate all the functionality of the central electronics module, I'm not sure what options there are in this realm. I doubt there's something out there for Volvo that supports the newer models like there is for VW/Audi. VAG-COM software now offers an OBD-II "generic" mode that works with all European cars that use the "ISO" protocol. This would work for investigating Check Engine lights for the EPA-required codes. As far as addressing other messages that pop up, I'm not sure if that means a trip to the dealer is in order or not.
Maybe Alex Peper's OBD-II solutions would be a cheaper option for generic OBD-II functionality?
