Symptoms of a failing timing belt? How would i know if the timing belt is going or gone? 850

If the timing belt was gone, i.e. broken, all hell would break loose and the engine would be ruined. It is an interference engine - expensive metal parts bump into each other at high speed. If the timing belt had somehow slipped a tooth the car would be running poorly consistently. The fact that yours runs fine at times would indicate that it is not the timing belt. This is not to say it couldn't break tomorrow but your problems would seem to be elsewhere.
