Removing Cat?? S70

Our 740 developed an internal rattle in the cat. WHen I checked, the honeycomb inards had cracked. I busted up all the materal with a hammer and long chisel, dumped it in the junk barrel and ran the car about 4 years w/o a cc. I saw no real change in anything. The mpg stayed about the same and there was no change in driveability
