cel '97 850 code P0116 temp sensor out of range ?????

Go for thermostat, cheap, quick & easy. Plus they just don't last long in these cars. A few years or 100k miles.

FYI - Volvo has circuitry in temp gauge to take out normal fluctuations in temp and keep the gauge right at 3pm. So if at 4 your are running cold. Typcical thermostat sign.

To avoid spillage drain off a little fluid, or just park a little uphill. You'll lose about a cup if your quick.
