Thanks for the reply. First, I should probably rephrase my description of what I am talking about. I agree with you in the fact that there isn't sufficient heat around the solenoid to "coke" the oil. What I am referring to is the sludge that forms inside of the solenoid (I should have chosen my words more carefully). First off, the bulletin that you referred to (21-0051) deals only with P2 cars, not the S70 in question. Therefore, the leftover metal flake is not even applicable to the car Dennis originally asked about. The solenoid failure that I have seen (many times) is due to the sludge, not the metal remnants. I believe that with synthetic oil, the sludge formation in the entire engine will be reduced. That is my reason for running it in my car and for recommending it to Dennis. Anyway, what the hell do I know. After all, according to some, I am "not a Volvo Master Tech".
