Tranny Shot - Sympathy Accepted 850 1993

About 100,000 miles ago a mechanic a dealer told me that he felt some slippage in the tranmission. I really could tell myself. Now even with fluid changes, at 287,000 miles the tranny did a big slip and the famous up arrow came on.

Got some codes from A1 & A3, cleared them and did the PNP fix trick of shifting many time from park to first. Went a few more miles and getting lots of slipping (slipping defined as engine speed increases but no matching tranny speed increase) but no more codes.

Made it to my local Volvo/Saab indy shop who gave me a little hope when they told me they haven't seen a shot tranny yet.

Guess I'm their first.

My inclination is to fix the old girl with a used transmission from a '93 that had a timing belt go. Maybe foolish, but can't afford newer car and I've kept my 850 in pretty good shape.

Plus - I really wanted to get to 300,000 miles (does a replaced transmission count for the high mileage club?)
