Post-1998 Volvos are really not made for shade-tree mechanics.

Nor are 7-Series BMWs.

Consumer Reports has the 99-00 S80 on it's "Used Cars to Avoid" list.

Consumer Reports also has the '97-'99 and '02-'03 7-Series on it's "Used Cars to Avoid" list.

In both cases the cars are relative bargains as used cars because the maintenance costs are so high.
