Hello Everyone:
This problem has me stumped. The '98 V/S70s (and some 850s, I've read) have
the unfortunate characteristic that the service reminder light *can only*
be reset through the ODB-2 interface using Volvo-specific codes. Now,
I have ELM32x-based scantool (hooks up to a laptop) that I have been
using to troubleshoot DTCs and it works like a champ and I really
like it. But as is, it is of no use in resetting the service lamp.
From the many posting I read from this list and elsewhere, I have
learned that this is because the reset is done with a vendor-specific
message and neither Volvo nor any of the third-party auto test
equipment companies are going to publish this information.
I'm certain that somewhere out there is a fellow OBD-2 enthusiast
that's in the same boat I'm in and has already figured out
the code(s) necessary to reset the service light on the affected
Volvo 850/s70/v70s. I know that Mr. Peper (a frequent poster on OBD topics)
knows the answer to my question because he added this feature to his
OBD browser software a few years ago.
So, I hoping that Mr. Peper or someone else who's been down this
road before is feeling generous and will share this information. If
you do, you will be answering one of the more frequently asked
questions there is on the Volvo forums.
Much Thanks,
Robert Miller
