WINDSHIELD WASHER PROBLEM 850 1997

Hello all, I had a "Chaeck Engine Light" on my '97 850 and the dealer told me it was the evaporator valve in the fuel system and it would have no effect on the perfromance of the car but he could change it for $138 plus labor. I decided to perform the work myself but have not been able to locate any reference to an evaporator valve online. However, at the same time I had been having problems with the windshield washer not working so I replaced the check valve in the washer system and to my surprise the "Check Engine Light" went out. The washer still does not spray properly and yesterday the "Check Engine" light came on again. Could this be a vacuum problem? Has anyone has this problem before?
