Found solution to sound problem 850

Hope i'm not just saying what everyone knows already, but here goes. Using the fader on my stereo, I noticed that the front just sounded horrible when compared to the back. Listening closely, it was clear the tweeters were not working. I visited Circuit City and was offered a nice set of 5.25" Infinity's or Polk's for $179, including the door speakers and the separate tweeters for the dashboard.

Visited the crutchfield store (it is a store/catalog returns outlet) and they had the same ones from Circuit City, but for $50 more, and the salesperson insisted there was no way I could cram anything bigger than 4" speakers in my doors without "major modification". Bummer. (of course I later read on here that this is crap).

On a whim I searched the archive on here, and found out about the magnet-falling-off problem. I took off the tweeters and found that is what happened, oddly on both sides (it is a '95). I found one magnet stuck to the passenger airbag (safe?), but the driver's side one was more difficult. I ended up taking off the dashboard panel in front of the knees and it was right there.

I glued them back on, and now the system sounds great. Once again brickboard saves the day.
