rear view mirror C70

hello I am new to this forum I have a 04 c70 with 175000 miles on the old girl. my problem is with the inside rear view mirror. it started to wobble and wiggle and will not stay where it is useable. I investigated the ball joint where it connects to the stem and it seems the plastic part does not hold the ball tight enough any longer. someone had inserted a screw in to the top edge of the plastic around the ball but that seems to have stopped helping. is there a cure besides a new mirror? and are they expensive, this one has the auto darkening on it.
