sound from traction control? S70 1998

I noticed while driving up my driveway, which was a sheet of ice, a sound from the front end. It sounded like gears slipping. I noticed the sound again while climbing a snowy hill under 25 mph(the limit on the tracs), however if I am going faster than 25 I dont hear it. It only lasts a few seconds at a time. Is this normal or is there something wrong the car?

thanks in advance

Bill
