Poor AM Radio Reception Fixed (?) S80 2000

We got our T6 last July. The AM radio reception has been poor on weaker stations compared to our truck, coupe and even other Y2K S80s.

The first thing the dealer did was to do a service procedure which reconditioned the antenna connector. But reception eventually ended up being poor and then sometimes intermittent.

Second, the radio/tape/cd unit was replaced. This seemed a bit better until we bumped over a small pot hole which caused AM reception on a strong AM station (KOA out of Denver; 50KW) to go poor. Back to the shop.

They spent a day comparing the new radio to one in another identical one in a Y2K S80. Finally deciding that the problem was the antenna amplifier.

Located near the left side of the rear window, there's a small amplifier between the antenna and the radio. This was ordered, then replaced.

Much better now and we're all convinced it was the original problem.

Yes, Volvo radio's typically don't have as good of AM reception as virtually all other cars sold in the USA, but at least ours is now pretty good. But we're keeping our mental fingers crossed.

Drive safe,
