More New Buyer Questions - T5 vs. GLT V70-XC70 1998

I posted a general question earlier in the week on the V70 - thanks to all for your responses. I think I'm starting to lean towards the '98 V70 over the '01 Taurus wagon, although some of the Volvo reliability issues are making me nervous.

Anyway, here's my question. Both my wife and I generally prefer a manual over an automatic. Does anyone have a direct comparison between the T5 and the GLT? The extra horsepower of the T5 would be a nice bonus, but are there any tradeoffs? Specifically I'm thinking torque steer, reliability, and ride stiffness (are the suspensions different?) We live in Chicago, so potholes are an issue, but we're not looking for an overly cushy ride, either.

Or should I just give up on the idea of a wagon with the manual, and go with the ubiquitous automatic GLT?

Thanks,

Dave
