Throttle Body 850

I removed the throttle body from my 93 850 last night and cleaned it up. Has anyone here ever tried to replace the plate inside (with the plastic insert) with a plate from a 960 throttle body (no plastic insert). There is a write up on Matthews Volvo Site about the 960 plate will increase air flow and better response. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I have to think that the engineers at Volvo put that plastic insert in there for a reason and I doubt we are smarter than them!!!
