I may have a later model ECC module - help those with '99 and newer S70 S70 1998

I have an unusual request/question. My car came with Electronic Climate Control when new. I have had numerous problems with various components of the control system. The dampener in one of the sides kept breaking. It was all being fixed under warranty, but the repair always took suspiciousely long time, like 3-4 weeks to complete. Then after a year or so the problem would re-appear and the same long repair time. I was ok with it as I always got to drive a nice new loaner (those '04 S40's are FUN and so was the '99 S80 T6). But I was getting concerned with the fact that the problem was re-occuring and my (extended) warranty was nearing the end. So, I took issue with it at the dealer. They again took the car in and kept it and kept it and kept it... Every time I call they would say someting to the effect that they are stumped at something not going together like it should. This was also the story in earlier episodes (different dealer). Finally, after about 6 weeks or so I got the car back. Everything seemed to work ok, but I did notice that the backlights on the ECC module (you know, the one with the knobs and fan control and buttons for A/C and recirc) are a slightly different shade than the rest of the dashboards. It is subtle, but obvious once you notice. The rest of the dash is greenish and the ECC is whitish. That, in and of itself is inconsequential, of course, but is rather a clue to the fact that I got a different ECC module. Mind you it did not look brand new, nor did my paperwork state any such thing as an ECC replacement. I confronted them about, but they said no, we did not change nothin'. I would have no way of prooving my position, so I left it alone seeing how everything was working ok. Then when I started using the car after this repair, I noticed that the ECC behaved completely different than before the repair. The big difference is the fan speed is now dependent on the speed with which the car moves. I understand the logic behind this. When the car is moving and you are not in re-circ mode, give the fan a bit of a break and slow it down. So, now when I stop at the red light, the fan woul audiably speed up and when I take off on the green, it would slow way down. This did not happen with the old ECC. What's up? Can people with ECC in their S70/V70 tell me how theirs behaves? Is yours dependent on speed? Does it slow down when moving and and speed up when stopped? the reason I am asking is that I do not like this behavior. It does not provide enough air flow when the car is moving. What's more irritating is that the when you take the fan speed controller off auto and jam it all the way to the right, the fans is still dependent on car speed. That drives me crazy! When I want to over-ride the auto setting and blast the fan at the max - let me! I don't care how fast I am going! So can you check if while moving and normal street or highway speed you can turn your fan all the way up and have it REALLY be up? I want to know wif I have something wrong with the module (like they didn't hook it up right or maybe it's stuck in some funky economy mode). So, please do this experiment tomorrow on your drive: Try by any means to get the fan to blow really up there. This must be done after the car is warmed up and the temperature in the cabin has settled to about what it's supposed to be, of course. I realize while trying to cool or warm the car at the beginning ECC has a different pattern of operation. I am talking when it settles down. Please, please report to me what you find. I still have a few months on this repair's warranty and want to make sure everything's ok. Maybe there is even a way to switch it out of this "funky economy mode", who knows...

I am all ears.

Thanks in advance!
