Headlight Switch Long-term Fix! V70-XC70

Hi,

This is my personal experience that many of you will find useful.
In response to the post by Chris re HL switch:

Yes this is a recall and Volvo should replace it for free.

My HL switch broke apart last year. Replaced by Volvo (claimed to be an improved switch).

Last month HL switch broke again. It turned out that the flimsy design with plastic tabs on the sides of the switch that is broken. I can guaranttee that if you buy a new switch ($45.00 at dealer), it will break away in 1-2 years because, Volvo did not fix the design.

Here is my fix (vexcellent fix at low cost). Use the same epoxy glue plumbers use for PVC pipe at home. Just go to Home Depot and ask a salesperson about the "Oaktey" Primers and Epoxy Glue used for PVC pipes. Roughly a few dollars.

Here is the trick:
* Study the switch and try to put it back together manually first.
There is a small wheel that comes pushes agains the knob so everytime you turn the switch, it makes a click.
* Once you have mastered the design of the switch, put the parts back together.
* Prime the edges (where the parts come together) with "Oaktey" Primer.
* Glue with Epoxy.
* Clamp with C-clamps gently, just to hold them together firmly for 15 minutes.
(Alternatively, you can hold them together with your fingers for 15 minutes, but make sure you hold them tightly)

Your switch is now all set for the next 10 years, I hope!

It worked for me and I hope that I will never have to replace it again.
