Ice indicator light and a fan (not the rad. fan) running after car is off.... drained multiple batteries!

Hi all, I have a perplexing problem I am hoping someone can shed some light on...

After I turn off the ignition in my '98 S70, the little snowflake indicator light on the dash that I believe is the "possible ice" indicator illuminates and a fan or pump continues to run, and run, and run, for hours till the battery finally dies (yes, its actually killed 2 now!)... The fan/pump (don't know what it is to be honest) is located right under the battery (on the drivers side) and it appears that there is a hose coming from this unit going into the air box (is this possibly a preheater of sorts?).

I don't know if this is a common problem for the '98 S70, and if anyone could suggest what the problem might be? I have much more experience on the old RWD volvos, and I am just starting to learn more about my FWD! Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Vos
