No-Start "Lifter Pump Down' '98 V70

My '98 V70 sat for about 5 days, and then wouldn't start. My local indie shop (very good) says the lifters have probably lost oil and "pumped down." They recommended extended cranking (careful not to fry starter) and trying to get the lifters to pump up.

I've tried cranking it several times, and haven't gotten anywhere. This happened about four years ago, and I did get it to start by holding gas pedal to the floor and cranking, but no go this time.

Oil is about 4 mos old, a few thousand miles, fairly dark amber color. Car has 220K miles. Has started fine for years, with these two exceptions.

Wondering if there is anything I can do to help the lifters. Would a change to fresh oil help to get oil into the lifters? Anything else?

Also wondering exactly what this means. If lifters not pumped up, does this mean the lifters are too compressed to open the valves fully?
