Ok, so this might not be a new subject, and maybe a useless gripe, but this car is absolutely, INSANELY bad in the snow. I mean, 1 inch on the ground and it takes 15 seconds to get to 10 MPH from a stop. Then there is this long hill, and not all that steep, and my inertia is the only thing getting me even half way up it. I had to turn around and go home! Almost got in an accident too, since antilock brakes came in and almost didn't stop my car in time.
And then there's traction "control"! I have to turn it off and spin the tires to move from even a mild slope on a bit of snow. Is this a common feeling?
I have 17" factory tires, with only 8000 miles on them and they stink in the snow, and I think they are really only moderate on dry pavement (easy to spin and such). And instead of paying $1030 for 16" rims and new tires, are there any good options for when I get new "all-season" tires in the future? Yes, I like the smooth, quite ride, but they seem to run short in the traction department.
What are folks out there doing to get along? Any cheap tires? Maybe getting tires from good old Sears like those Blizzaks? Is it much cheaper?
Grumble...
