Tranny flush - hose clip question V70-XC70

Just did a normal tranny flush for the first time on my '98 V70R at 200k. Went from black to red fluid, flushed about 16 qts and she's shifting very well.

But what's up with that clip that connects the hose? Is there an easy way or a trick that I need to know to use this thing? I had bought a new one, ended up snapping it and then had to reuse the old one.
