Hot key cylinder 850 1995

Strange. Just picked up my daughter's 850T and drove it for 30min. When I pulled into the garage, I pulled out the key and gave it to her. She dropped it!! It was that hot! I touched the key hole and got a 1st degree burn.
Anybody have a clue? I am going to remove the clamshell around the steering wheel and get a better look.

Thanks for any info,

Klaus

Maybe check to plugs to see if you're running lean. This could cause the exhaust manifold to get really hot and it's not too far from the steering column. May even see it glowing when it's dark.

      Thanks Larry,
I checked them last month and they look perfect, but need to be replaced in a year or so. Just might do it earlier!

    Update 850 1995

Before I could take off the clamshell, I notice4d that the steering column that goes through to the engine bay was just as hot.
My 30 minute drive was mostly local roads. The AC is not cooling off, the engine bay is extremely hot, the engine fan runs a lot, everything is just HOT. The outside air temp was showing 120F, the garage air is at 88F.
Maybe I should just buy my father's old white Subaru wagon that he uses to go fishing. LOL

Why is everything so hot? When the engine cools to below 90F, I am going to see if any codes have been triggered. That would also be a good time to see what the dealer did to my beautiful car. And make sure no junk fell onto my cabin filter.

Any chance your exhaust is resting on your power steering rack? Once motor mounts have failed, the exhaust can drop down at the flex pipe and touch the rack. Just a thought.

      Update 850 1995

      Hi Klaus,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you have issues with the coolant recirculation on this car @ 6 months ago? No way the car should be running that hot if the cooling system is operating properly. You probably know way more about the 850's than I do as I am a relative newbie; but just adding my 2 cents Canadian to this.

        Update 850 1995

        Paul,
Previous owner had replaced evaporator, compressor, condenser, and radiator, among other things. I only have ac problems when the engine bay gets hot, otherwise, it cools like it should. Thankfully, July and summer are almost over here and the temperature will start dropping in August to more manageable levels.
The engine fan in my 164e is like standing next to a tornado. The V70 is the same as the 850, the air moves but has no place to go. Maybe some louvers added to the top of the hood would help? Hmmmm.
