The world loves to taunt the poor, R's a plenty in Australia... 850

Ahh, the poor 760Ti is playing up, and washing her just seems to make me notice more of the problem areas...

So I'm a lurking the on line car ads, as you do, drooling over my fav's, as usual, when it hits me that the world must love to taunt those who can't.
There were probally 30+ or so 850R's sold in Australia, and yet browsing today, I swear I found damn near 10 or so for sale on line!!!

Oh miss lady luck of the lotto, please let me win the million this week!!!
Ok, or maybe just $22000, plus on roads...

Good to see another aussie hanging out here ;)

Actually, you will find that at least 50% of those R's available online are already sold! Let me guess, there's the manual wagon (green) in qld, yellow T5-R sedan in nsw, etc. I spoke to a couple of the sellers of these cars. They have been advertised (and sold) now for over a year, yet whoever is running the site refuses or is unable to remove them.

Goodluck with the hunt though. The R's well worth it :) I looked for 6 months before i found the one in manual that i wanted :) There's a lot more auto's around though.

I did not come across either of those actually, all the ones I saw were listed on sites that usually only list cars if they are still for sale.
I also know of 2 that have been sitting in car yards for close to a year now!!!

It's hard to beleive that a car like the 850R would have so much trouble selling, I even met someone who had a dark green sedan (my fav), and he complained that he tried to sell it 3 times, at prices that made him want to cry, and yet still no takers?, he loves the car, but wanted to move onto something newer, but now simply can't afford to sell it anymore.

If I had the money, I'd buy one in a flash, how many 8 year old cars can still blow away most of the newer rice cars around?, and at like half the price?

Actually i just re-looked at the offending website (carsales) and those cars are FINALLY gone. It only took 18 months.

Sounds like you might be in Melbourne! There are a couple of yards here that have had R's for aaaages. But one of the vehicles at least started at around $34k, and has slowly come back from there.

It is quite strange here that a lot of the 850SE's etc are asking $20k, and when the R's come up they just can't seem to sell, even when asking around and below this. I saw a green R sedan about 8 months ago where the price just kept getting lower and lower (think i saw it at $16 or $17k was the last). Might be the same car you are referring to. I was tempted, but really i wanted a wagon and a manual, so in the end decided to wait.

Wonder why. . . . is the Australian market just not aware of the 'R' model?

The R's great passing the 5.0L Holden hoons :) I've been asked a couple of times at lights "what the f*&% is in that", and had the satisfaction of saying "completely stock 8yr old volvo, 2.3L" :) :) No need to mention the turbo, hehehhehehehe.

I think it's more to do with the stigma attached to driving a Volvo in Australia, hence the idiot "Bloody Volvo Driver" advertising campaign run by Volvo Cars Aust.
Here in Adelaide, since that ad campaign, I cop constant abuse from the drongo's whether I drive my 240 or 850 just because it's a Bloody Volvo, but in the U.S. college kids seem to love 'em.

          regards.....Valvo

Perhaps. I'm amazed also at the number of college kids driving them in the US! You might catch a few uni kids driving 240 series here, but that would be more due to the price and functionality than a desire to drive a Volvo.

Although the good part is, once they start driving them, nothing else is then good enough ;)

I haven't copped much from the "bloody volvo driver" campaign, although a few friends have said it in jest & you get sick of it after the 1st time. But actually they all love my bloody volvo! AND now think that are volvo's are one of the fastest cars out there (especially since buying the R). Hahahhaha.

I think the reason the R just don't sell is that it's just so unknown, no one seems to realise that there is this car that does like 0-100 tyre chewing times, even in auto form, and has a engine built by porsche.
One day people will realise though, and then it may suddenly be hard to get your hands on one.
